Our First Awards!

In our first year of production we won two awards from the United Kingdom Vineyards Association in the English and Welsh Wine of the Year Competition as well as four awards in the Mercian Vineyards Annual Competition. All very exciting!

Please visit Our Awards page for full details.

Yorkshire Rural Awards

Organised byThe Yorkshire Dalesman Magazine this annual event was hosted by John Craven on 13 May at the Pavilions, Harrogate.
We were nominated in the Food and Drink Producer of the Year category and made the shortlist! It would have been nice to win, of course, but we felt that we did well for such a new business to make the final listing.

Vineyard News - Ryedale Vineyards Wine

Ryedale Vineyards

News from the Winery

After a fine autumn in 2009, we picked in late September and early October. The grapes were ripe and clean, with good sugar levels.

As ever, the emphasis in the winery is on gentle handling to preserve freshness and fruit quality.

We produced four wines in 2009, and they are proving very popular with trade and private buyers. Our wine specialist, Dr Gareth Morgan, has prepared some tasting notes for them.

RYEDALE VINEYARDS – 2009 VINTAGE
Prepared by Dr Gareth Morgan DipWSET, wine specialist at Ryedale Vineyards

Yorkshire Lass Wine

A. “Yorkshire Lass” White, pure Madeleine Angevine

A single variety wine with lovely floral notes on the nose.

The palate is dry with good fruit, but not too acidic making a very rounded partner for almost any savoury dish calling for a white wine.

Wolds View Wine

B. “Wolds View” White, blend of Solaris, Phoenix and Seyval Blanc

Great expression of fruit on the palate (apples, grapefruit) with similar character on the nose.  A really classy English white wine with a superb balance of fruit and acidity.

A delicious aperitif but also a good partner for lightly flavoured cheeses or possible a fruity dessert with citrus flavours.

Yorkshire Sunset Wine

C. “Yorkshire Sunset” Rosé, blend of Rondo and Regent

A beautiful orangey pink wine with delicate strawberry aromas.

The palate is crisp, rounded and fruity (melons and strawberries) with just a hint of sweetness.  Great as an aperitif, or perhaps with a fruity starter.

Dark Rose Wine

D. “Dark Rose” Rosé, pure Rondo, unchaptalised

A deep rosé wine – verging on a pale red – totally dry and crisp with good berry fruits and light tannins.

A good partner for a wide range of foods calling for an English wine with some structure and bite.

Suggested tasting order for a wine tasting:

A, B, C, D as above

Suggested tasting order with a meal:

Aperitif – C
Starter - A
Main course - D
Dessert/cheese – B
