Frequently Asked Questions

When do tours start again?

Tours run from Easter until the end of October. Tour dates for 2022 are booking quickly on our 'Tours' page.  The drop down box on the right of the page has all the dates remaining.  We will of course be implementing strict cleaning and safety measures which we are still putting into place, this will involve small size tours, plenty of hand sanitiser available and visits to the winery in the groups you arrived with.   We thank everyone for their support and patience, we as a family are hugely grateful.

How do I find you?

Our SatNav postcode is YO60 7LS however, we share a postcode with neighbouring farms. Going towards Leavening on the road signposted Leavening, Burythorpe & Thixendale we are the first farm on the right. We have two white signs at the top of our farm track. Although our postal address is Westow, we are on the road to Leavening. A map can be found here.  Our ///what3words are bubbles.outlined.chaos.

How do I book onto a wine tour?

Tours can be booked on our ‘Tours’ page for a specific date. Tours run weekends from Easter until October and available dates are shown on the drop down menu to the right of the page on the booking form. This is a print at home ticket.

Can I gift a tour for the recipient to book on to a date of their choosing?

You can buy a Tour & Tasting voucher for one or two on our shop page under ‘Gift Vouchers’. Vouchers can be used for booking onto any tour and are valid for 12 months subject to availability.

Is your tour suitable for for older people with mobility problems?

We do not walk a long way with the tour, you are welcome to wander further after the tasting and a seat can be discreetly produced if needed.  Our winery is close by but does have a rough cobbled floor and a stone step.  If you need assistance let us know we will do our best to accommodate.

How do I book onto a wine tour with a Ryedale Vineyards voucher?

Please choose your date from the available list on the ‘Tours’ page and either email us or telephone us with your preferred date, we will confirm the date by email.

How do I book onto a wine tour with an Activity Superstore voucher?

Please follow the instructions on your voucher to obtain an activation code and then choose a preferred date for your tour as above. Telephone or email us with your chosen date and voucher code which is usually 4 letters and 6 numbers.

When is the best time to visit the vineyard?

This very much depends on what you want to see. The vines are dormant and hard pruned over winter, around late spring bud burst occurs. Flowers appear on the vines usually in June and fruit starts forming straight after flowering. We harvest early to mid September right through October depending on the weather.

Can I stay overnight following my wine tour?

If we have availability it will be shown on our 'Book A Room' page. However, accommodation does get booked up very quickly, especially in summer and autumn.  The B&B is now fully booked for 2022.

When will I have a tour if I am staying with you?

For guests staying with us you can add the option of a wine tour and tasting to your booking. If a public tour is not scheduled we will hold a tour for guests on your day of arrival usually around 4pm to 4.30pm.

What time is check in for the B&B?

Check in is from 3pm, we do ask politely that you do not arrive too early to check in, we are working hard to sanitise and prepare rooms for you and it does take some time.  Check out is 10.30am.

What about Covid restrictions?

Should government restrictions prevent you from travelling to us for a tour or stay, rest assured you will be able to reschedule.  Please bear in mind that this is our home and we would appreciate mask wearing precautions and the use of our numerous hand sanitisers where possible.  If you wish to schedule your tour or stay please let us know as soon as possible and we will do all we can to transfer your booking to your preferred date if available.

Do you do private tours?

Yes we run tours and tasting, with brunch, afternoon tea or tapas packages for parties of 12 or more, please see our parties page here

Our Stables is available for tours and tastings or celebrations, for larger parties 30-60 (or 80 standing) we have a marquee available to hire.

I don’t have a PayPal account.

One is not needed, we use PayPal to process card payments, you can proceed without logging in to an account or creating one, just use the button that says ‘Pay By Debit or Credit Card’.

Do you allow camping or caravans?

We are sorry but we do not have the facilities to allow camping at the vineyard.

Can I bring my dog?

No, dogs are not permitted at the vineyard or left in a car

I don’t want to drive, is there public transport?

The vineyard is in a rural area, there is no public transport. The nearest rail station is Malton approximately six miles away which has links to Leeds and Scarborough. Taxis are available in Malton near to the station but should be booked in advance to ensure they are available.

Is there anywhere to stay nearby?

If we are fully booked, there are places to stay in Malton approximately six miles away or surrounding villages, more information can be found on

Where can I eat if I am staying with you?

There are two local pubs both serving delicious food, The Jolly Farmers at Leavening is less than 1.5 miles and The Blacksmith's Arms at Westow is around 3 miles away. Details of both can be found on their websites.

Do you have a cafe?

No we are a working vineyard and do not have any facilities for visitors arriving early for tours or accommodation.

Can I buy wine when we come to visit?

Yes wine and cider are sold direct from the cellar door.

Can I pop down to buy wine?

Yes, although it is best to telephone us first on 01653 658035 as we can be working away in the fields and there may not be anyone here to assist.

My favourite wine is out of stock, can you make some more?

If only it was that easy.  I am afraid quantities of wine are dictated by the previous years harvest, more will be made only after the next harvest.  We are replanting as quickly as we are able to increase quantities. We do not buy in grapes or juice, everything we sell is grown on our vineyards.

Is your wine suitable for vegans?

Can I pop down to have a look around?

Whilst we love having visitors to talk to we are usually incredibly busy and we don't like to appear rude when we say we do not have time to show you around, so we would ask you to book on a tour if you can.
